Exfoliate your skin all over with a scrub or exfoliating glove. Don’t forget your elbows, ankles, neck and underarms!
Avoid all bar soaps, heavily fragranced or moisturizing body washes such as Dove. These products can cause a film on your skin
Any waxing or shaving should be done 24 hours prior to your session.
All manicure and pedicure appointments should be done the day before your session if possible
Day of session
You should refrain from applying anything to the skin that may act as a barrier between the sunless solution and the skin. Deep penetration is key to beautiful lasting color. For this reason, do not apply lotions, creams, or perfumes prior to session. Also, use deodorant sparingly.
Remove any makeup prior to sunless application. Wipes are available to remove makeup and deodorant at Summer Sheen if necessary.
Wear loose fitting dark clothing and flip-flops or sandals after your tanning appointment.
Tight clothing can rub or smear bronzers, especially around the knees, elbows and waist. Remove jewelry.
After your tan
After your tan, wait 16-24 hours before you shower for the best results (unless using a rapid rinse solution).
If you notice any flaws on your skin prior to your first shower, they are likely rubs from clothing. Remember to wash only the palms of your hands until after your first post-tan shower.
Do not attempt to blend flaws or fix spots that may occur from water splashes from hand washing. These flaws usually only affect the bronzer and your tan will almost always be even after your first shower. During your first shower, the color run off is also just the bronzer used as a color guide so that the technician can see that she is applying your tan evenly. This color is not your tan.
Wait until after your first post-tan shower to exercise. Your new tan needs to fully develop before excessive sweating.
Use a sulfate free shower gel for showers only where necessary. Do not scrub, exfoliate or wax until you are ready to take the tan off as it will cause the tan to fade more quickly.
Avoid chlorinated pools, hot tubs and steam rooms which will shorten the life of your tan.
The more you moisturize the longer your tan will last. During the week after your tanning session, try to avoid using exfoliating products. These products shorten the life of your tan. Only use them before a tanning session or to help remove the remnants of an old tan.
Like any beauty routine, preparation, care, and upkeep is required to keep your Summer Sheen Spray Tan looking its best for days to come. Using our pH Balancing Cleanser and Color Extenders will also help extend and enhance your spray tan.
Drink lots of water. Keeping your skin hydrated from the inside out will help you retain color longer and will promote more even fading of your sunless tan.
Frequently Asked Question
How long does a spray tan take?
First time appointment which includes the consultation allows for 30 minutes and the follow ups should be around 15-20 minutes.
how long does my spray tan last?
Anywhere from 5-7 days. It will depend on your level of activity, how well you take care of the tan and the condition of your skin. For best results it is recommended that you use aftercare products as they were formulated specifically to work well with the sunless tan. A spray tan is affecting the outer layer of the skin. Anything that you do to exfoliate will result in a quicker fading. The healthier your skin, the longer your tan will last. For big events we always suggest a trial run 3-4 weeks prior.

The tanning solutions are water-soluble and will wash off but in some cases can stain light colored garments. Once you have your first shower it is set in and you will not see any spray tan products coming off on your clothing. It may take 2 rinses to fully rinse off the bronzer.
If you do still see a bit coming off after your first shower that means you haven't rinsed the bronzer off well enough or on rare occasions the skin PH balance can be off.
